Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE

  • Ensure the reliable operation, maintenance, and evolution of our Mobile Core network, including CS, EPC, IMS, and associated platforms.
  • Deliver high availability and performance for Packet Switched (PS) and Circuit Switched (CS) services, supporting technologies such as VoLTE, and 5G Core.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for 2G, 4G and 5G Packet Core nodes and based services (SGSN, GGSN, MME, SGW, PGW, AMF, UPF and SMF), providing technical support for integration, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Support on-net and international NB-IOT, CAT-M and IoT growth with platform and customer support.
  • MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Core network operations

    Operate and maintain EPC, IMS and CS components, ensuring compliance with KPIs and SLAs.

    Monitor, perform configuration, upgrades, and patches for core network elements (MME, SGW, PGW, PCRF, HSS, SBC, CS Core and IMS nodes) working with Ericsson and other engineers.

    Monitor and analyse performance metrics to optimize capacity and quality of service.

    Troubleshoot complex issues across signalling protocols (Diameter, SIP, SS7, GTP, HTTPs) and resolve faults promptly.
    Interconnect & services

    Manage IP connectivity for GRX and interconnect partners.

    Support roaming services and ensure IREG compliance.
    Maintain mobile support services such as SMS, antifraud, voicemail, and SIM steering.
    VAS and IoT

    Support existing VAS SMS, Voice, Signalling solutions

    Support the development and in life support of new products and services

    Support on-net and international VAS and IoT growth with:
    o the integration of new platforms and tools;
    o the onboarding or addition of services to additional customers and any integration into their network and/or systems;
    o the ongoing support of customers in the domain; 
  • the ongoing management of any platforms and upgrades

Infrastructure & Services

Monitoring, managing and support upgrades of the Mobile Core Physical, Virtualised and Containerised infrastructure

Review of the architecture and any preventative maintenance

Evolution & projects

Participate in network expansion, capacity planning, and software upgrades.

Contribute to RFP evaluations and vendor discussions for core and IMS-related projects.

Security Architect Support

Work with the Security Architect to (a) review assets, identify weaknesses and ensure appropriate security is maintained; (b) to ensure the Security strategy is implemented including the integration from within your domain with our security technology and tools.

Investigate security alerts and provide incident response within your domain.

If/When potential weaknesses, attacks, intrusions, unusual, unauthorised or illegal activity are identified, assist in the implementation of mitigations, including vulnerability management.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

. Strong understanding of 2G, 4G and 5G mobile networking and associated core.

. Strong understanding of protocols utilised in a mobile network including but not limited to SIP, Diameter, SS7 and HTTPs.

. Experience with mobile core nodes (MME, SGW, PGW, PCRF, HSS, AMF, UPF and SMF) and IMS components (SBC, , S-CSCF, I-CSCF BGCF etc).

. Knowledge of IP networks, routers, switches, firewalls, dynamic routing protocols and an appreciation of system security.

. An understanding and skills to configure and administer a telecoms virtualised environment.

. Good communication skills both written and verbal.

. Willingness to work and communicate with both internal cross departmental teams as well as external customers.

. Flexible approach to work and participation in a callout rota.

. Desire to learn new technologies through both formal and self-learning and ability to adapt to an ever-changing technical environment.

. Willingness to explore and create AI and automated tools to aid the team with support of the mobile network nodes and customer faults
