Job Description:

Purpose of the Position: To provide legal representation and advice to both private paying and Legal Aid clients of Litigation.

Specific Responsibilities:

It shall be the responsibility of the employee to:

  • Provide representation in all Courts and management of client matters in the Litigation department
  • Effectively and professionally manage a portfolio of client matters.
  • Ensure to remain apprised of ongoing developments in aspects of the Law which will affect your day to day working practices.
  • Ensure that to comply at all times with the provisions of the Code of Conduct produced by the Law Society of the Island of Jersey, as amended from time to time.
  • Ensure that to undertake sufficient CPD professional development on a year to year basis.
  • Seek to increase the number of new matters and clients instructing us.
  • Obtain the required time recording and billing figures set by the Partners.

Marketing and Business Development

  • To develop and market the Litigation team, specifically civil, and the firm generally in both business and social situations by attending marketing events, liaising with intermediaries, and contributing to the content of the website and social media. This to further the interests of the Firm and/or develop your own professional profile.
  • Strive to always enhance the reputation of the Firm and other members of the Firm both internally and externally.

Compliance, cyber-crime and risk

  • Attending firm wide training sessions to ensure conformity with legislation in connection with anti-money laundering, cyber-crime and reviewing ad hoc updates that may be provided by the MLCO/MLRO.
  • To be vigilant when dealing with client matters to ensure conformity with internal risk procedures, client take on procedures, anti-money laundering legislation and the Law Society Code of Conduct.
  • Reporting any suspicions to the MLRO/DMLRO.

General responsibilities

  • To ensure at all times that work is carried out to a high level of skill and accuracy.
  • To ensure at all times that a high level of client care and service is provided.
  • To uphold the Firms values and enabling behaviours at all times.
  • To include all further work-related tasks assigned by the Partners.
  • To ensure that the office computer systems are kept up to date with all key client

information.

  • To use initiative as required ensuring the smooth running of the litigation department.

You will undertake fee earning work and effectively manage a portfolio of client matters. You will be able to identify legal and factual issues in cases and help to produce a plan as to how the clients aims can be achieved. Tasks will include providing representation in all Courts on client matters, researching legal issues, providing legal support and advice to clients and developing and marketing the Dispute Resolution team.

Role requirements:

· Minimum of 5 years' experience working within a similar environment.

  • Ability to manage a diverse and complex caseload of civil litigation matters.
  • Demonstrates consistently high standards of work and professionalism.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Entitled or Entitled for Work status.
